The dry-clutch version had suffered similar problems to VW in some markets (hot countries in particular). The wet clutch model is the more reliable of the two. Getrag supply the same DSG gearbox technology to a number of other car manufacturers. In the V40 at least the PowerShift was only ever available in the D2 and T4.
Re: The Reliability Dilemma | Want to buy VW Virtus GT, but worried about DSG. I have owned an Octavia 1.8 TSI with the infamous DQ200 DSG gearbox. I haven't had any DSG breakdown in more than 5 years of my ownership, although I have clocked little more than 40000 km only. We keep complaining about DSG failures only, but there are other factors
Asked on 18 December 2017 by Phil Harwin. Answered by Honest John. The DSG to specifically avoid is the DQ200 twin dry clutch 7-speed fitted to smaller engines from 1.0 litre to 1.8 litre. The DQ250 twin wet clutch 6-speed fitted to 2.0 litre transverse engines, while not perfect, is far more reliable. Tags: technical issues dsg gearbox.
The DSG was better than any other automatic I've owned on a high mileage car in terms of reliability. Our Saturn required a partial rebuild at about 80k and again at 110k, and finally quit going in reverse at 132k. The SportTrac required a total rebuild at 145k, but had been acting up since about 120k.
21. Model: Octavia 3FL 5E 2.0 TDI DSG. Posted 21 September, 2020 (edited) Hi all. O3FL 2019 2.0 TDI 150HP DSG7 (DQ381). My issue is that the DSG is very “soft” in the 2nd and occasionally 3rd gear, meaning that it’s tends to slip the clutch to get a soft gear change. It is a wet clutch, so some brief slip is okay.
Skoda Superb - A cautionary tale about DSG Gearboxes. The following was passed to me by a close friend who is the new keeper of the aforementioned Skoda. ".. Dear petrolheads A cautionary tale.. Monday - sell Subaru for £1,175. Sad to see it go. Never had any problem with it, was the most reliable car. Lasted 146,000 miles.
When it comes to the reliability of the DSG gearbox, while there have been a few instances of failure, the overall prevalence of issues might be exaggerated. It's worth noting that mechanical failures can happen with any type of gearbox.
The early 3.2vr6 DSG cars 2004 ish were the ones that had mechatronic modules that wouldnt last. There was also a bad batch arround 58 plate but they were all replaced under warranty. These days
